Random

Filed under: School, Life, Countdowns! — Sharyl @ 9:42 am

You know when you are baking cookies or making supper or even doing your hair and I’m standing there asking how much longer? Well……

Days until done degree: 6
Days of actual school: 1
Days until Dominican: 47
Days until GnR: like .5
Days until Aerosmith: like 2.5

I’ve set this up so I have at least 47 days of countdowns left however this is going to pretty much be the end of the school countdowns…. it is the end of an era. It’s weird. I have 6 days and 60 multiple choice questions standing in the way of me being finished (knock on wood that I actually pass art history and economics - we could be doing another semester here!). Hmmmmm……. it is a weird feeling. I don’t even know how to put it into words.

So I’ve been staying at my brothers and hanging out with Sparkle and I started to feel bad because those 2 have been blogging everyday and I have barely even had contact with a computer in the past week. I know what your thinking “but Sharyl, we live in the age of technology, how do you avoid computers?” Well…. I lied. I have been hanging out with them a lot, but it’s all word documents and power point with the occasional run in to check my email. But this is the first time I have sat down for some quality time in probably a week. The sad part? Other than school coming to a close I have nothing to write about…… talk to me in a couple days.

I sure have been writing on here a lot! But really who can blame me? I’m spending pretty much my entire life doing school stuff — this seems like the only break I am getting (except work and driving and sleep and watching Ellen with Sparkle this morning). And besdies, so many important milestones are going past me daily! Such as: moments ago I finished my last Economic’s assignment! That’s a pretty good feeling considering I’ve been hating economic’s for about 3 months now! All I have to do is write the final and it’s out of my life forever! Yay!

So I drove up yesterday and saw all the cars in the ditch at Leduc but I made it and so far have had pretty good luck with the whole driving thing. I also moved out of the wonderful place called HUB on Sunday! (Special Thanks goes out to Ma & Pop & Tanya) Woo — I have never been so happy to move out of a place. It is a little bitter sweet though cause it means that I am that much closer to not being a student anymore and I’m not a few feet away from Tanya at all times. Oh and I’m kinda homeless when I’m up at school. But my wonderful brother and sister-in-law have been nice enough to let me stay with them for a few nights a week. It really is very nice of them! That’s why I got to watch Ellen this morning with Sparkle cuddled up beside me (we bonded until I made her go to her room while I showered. She gave me a look that meant so many things — I was almost scared. Then I remembered that she is a dog).

Hmmmmm….. what else? Oh yeah! Countdown:

Days Until done degree: 14
Days of actual School: 5
Days until Dominican: 55
Days until GnR concert: 9
Days until Aerosmith & Motley Crue concert: 11

I love countdowns! It makes it seem like everything is getting closer! For example: In a mere 55 days Tammy, Jodi, and I will be drinking free pina coladas on a nice warm beach! Or in only 14 days I will be done school —- that sounds so much better than December 12th!

It’s countown time

Filed under: School, Life, Road Trips, Countdowns! — Sharyl @ 8:43 pm

35 / 15

That’s the countdown. 35 days and I am officially done my University education, that breaks down to 15 days spent the university (classes and exams). Isn’t that crazy? I think it’s crazy. I think that it’s making me cazy! It’s weird - ya know? I’m findng it hard to deal with, hard to accept… I’m going to be done this stage of my life in 35 days. I know that so many people have done it an I know that everyone I’ve talked to has said that it is a weird feeling but I guess I didn’t believe it until now. Oh well, nothing I can do but get through it right? Right!

So I’m still the crazy girl commuting to school and today was intersting. I woke up and heard that there was an accident on the good old QE2 — I guess it was pretty major, traffic backed up, detoured to 2A and all that jazz. Everyone and their dog called me to tell me about it, so I left early, gave myself a little extra time. Turns out I did not need to do that. By the time I got to that point on the QE2 they were still cleaning up and I had to slow down to a crawl but not due to traffic, just because there were ‘men at work’ and I was being safe. Turns out a semi carrying those big cement square things flipped over or something (the radio had me believing that it was wet cement all over the road — it wasn'’t). Long story short, it was the best drive on the highway I’ve had all year! Everyone else decided to detour or wait or somehing so it was just me and a few of my fellow commuters, it was amazing! I have never been on that road with so few people. It was nothing short of fabulous. ….and that’s my story……

I also just wrote midterm in my economics class. Honestly I’m not sure how i went. You know how it goes: you think you did good and you fail, you think you failed and you did better than you ever expected. But I walked out of there and just didn’t know. I’m not sure how I feel about that. I guess I can only wait for the marks to be posted. Right now I am sittng in my favorite place on campus. It sounds stupid but it’s the quiet room on the second floor of Rutherford South — that’s right … the library. Obviously I am not doing any actual work right now but that is only because I can’t think about anything right now. I do have an assignment to do but I have all day tomorow to do that and I’m confient that after a good nights sleep it will work out better. HAHAHAHA — and now I’m blabbering on trying to convince myself that i is okay to procrstinate! That is so funny (well it is to me tight now). Ok — time to do some work I guess.

Keeping up my end of the deal

Filed under: School, Life, The Corsica / The Versa — Sharyl @ 1:08 pm

Ok, so I said I would update more often and then I fell off the face of the planet! HAHAHA — isn’t that awesome! Anyway I’m pretty sure I have a list of very valid excuses but I won’t get into that! What’s been happening? Hmmmmm………

Well work —- I have been working alot
…. and school — i have been getting busier with school — papers, midterms, readings, presentations
…. the social life — hahahaha — thats funny hey — i have time for it but it hasn’t been too exciting. Lets see: FCA, Kathy’s birthday, Hall-giving…….. I really wish there was more!! I’m just waiting for November long weekend!

But with Jana coming back to Red Deer this weekend and CFR coming up I should be in for some good times! They haven’t failed me yet!!!!

The corsica is getting up there in years too — I haven’t wrote about it for a while. We are pretty much at half blue paint, half grey primer — I have to get new registration this month, what do I put under colour? It hasn’t let me down though, I mean besides the occasional time that I take it to get a check up and someone tells me that I’m lucky to be alive — hahahaha — it still hasn’t killed me. It’s got a clicking noise now. But as longs as it remains just clicking along I’m fine — I figure if the clicking stops thats when I have a real problem!

So…. still want me to update this more often? Cause I have the most boring life ever!

PS — it must be getting close to christmas cause the library smells like oranges!

Well la de da

Filed under: Photos, Friends, School, Life, Countdowns! — Sharyl @ 7:05 pm

ok — so in true end of the semester form: 1 down, 4 to go!

I finished my first final on Thursday night and now I’m working on balancing studying for my second final (this Tuesday) and writing a term paper (technically due this wednesday)! Ain’t life grand! That is about it! I’m so looking forward to that last week of classes and the moving and the finals……mainly because that all means that I will be that much closer to the end! and well its summer and summer = beach = tan = fun in the sun! I could go on but I won’t!

Last weekend I went to RD to have a birthday extravaganza for Tammy — and what an extravaganza it was! I had fun, we all had fun — I think the whole town knows just how much fun Tammy had! Good times 3 years running! (sidenote: my batteries in my camera died on the ride down cause Tanya and I were being cool so I’m gonna need pictures from everyone there who had a camera so I can post them here — I want ALL the pictures and you have my word that I will only post the pretty and appropriate ones!)

That’s really about all I’ve been up to. I eat and sleep school and Tammy’s birthday! oh and still trying to look for a summer job (so if you are reading this and want to hire a very bright sociology student for the summer give me a call!!!! HAHAHA!).

The countdown is on!

Filed under: School, Countdowns! — Sharyl @ 5:35 pm

That’s right! You heard it here first folks! I will be done this semester on April 20th!!! That’s right, I got my final exam schedule! Can you tell I’m pumped? Some might say “super pumped” but I don’t want to over-do it!
Why is this so exciting? Why am I pumped? I’ll tell you why. This means that in just over a month I will be done my 4th year of higher learning (not my degree but we are “glass-half-full” people today) and 4 short months after that I will be on my way back to this fine institution for an even shorter 3 1/2 months to complete my degree! I think that there was poor grammar back there!.And think about that for just a minute. I’ll pause…… I will be done my degree in less than a year!! That means that I can start my real life in the real world and do grown-up things like support myself or actually talk to my friends on the phone and not through the world wide web (things tend to loose something when using emoticons)
Now, I do realize that next christmas seems like a really long ways away, but it really isn’t! You should really start your shopping now! And While your at it, pick me up a graduation card cause I’m so close to being done that I can taste it!!

And I do realize that i sound a little crazy right now but I’m not sure I care.

What else is new? Not much. Classes to go to, papers to write, articles and chapters to read, tests to be written, semesters to be planned, laundry to be done. So that’s what I’m going to do right now: throw some laundry on while I do some reading in preparation for those tests/papers!

And no, I’m not crazy!

Happy V-day!!!!

Me?….. I’m gonna write a midterm tonight!!! That’s my idea of a good time!

It’s a busy time of year!

Filed under: School — Sharyl @ 3:17 pm

Ok, so, I must love being busy cause I just can’t stop adding things to my list of things to do! It’s mid-term time at the good ol U of A and over the weekend I have to finish my readings, do research and write a paper, study for 2 mid-terms, and now I’ve volunteered to do extra reading and extra work for the discussion in one of my classes! Yay me!!!

I did just write a mid-term though and I’m feeling pretty good about it! That is always nice right before the weekend. Why is it that I almost exclusively write about my life as a student here? Probably cause thats all I do. Oh well…….

Another semester on the go

Filed under: Friends, School, Life, Fish, The Corsica / The Versa — Sharyl @ 2:05 pm

I know I’m a horrible person for not writing anything here since before Christmas, but I have been a very busy girl.

Christmas was great! Family time was great! Work was ok. And that is basically what I did for my break. That and dragging my friends out and about all the time and probably getting on their nerves cause I wanted to hang out all the time. The I drove back up to E-town. The Corsica is back resting and I’ll probably leave it alone for a while now. Jana Too made it again. Although she is a little more aggressive than she was before the Red Deer trip. I think it has something to do with Mom’s fish and all the socializing that went on!

Then I started the winter 2006 semester with a bang! See, before Christmas we all thought it would be fun to participate in AntiFreeze, a week long competition at the UofA. And it was so much fun! however, I am still tired! We were doing something EVERY night and were supposed to be doing something every day (but we skipped a bit — for academic reasons). But that’s all said and done. Good times! I have my books and my classes are in full swing now so….. I’m back writing here so I don’t have to read.

I’m thinking I might have to post some pictures. I’ll have to look through and find the most appropriate ones! (yes — go take a look!)
