Life….. and Relay!!!

Filed under: Life — Sharyl @ 9:41 am

So my brother recently wrote an entry on is blog that I believe was in part directed at me. It was about people and their blogs and the sins they commit. Now I am the first on to admit that I don’t keep this site updated with every tidbit of m life or every thought that runs through my head, but only cause I’m sure no one really cares. I like reading my brothers blog! It’s interesting, informative, sometimes funny, and there are pictures of my beautiful niece (I don’t like the pictures of the million and a half spiders that hatched but that is a personal issue that I am working on). My life is just not that interesting. Well, thats a lie, my job can be pretty unbelievable somedays and I could tell you about it for hours! But I won’t cause that would get boring for you but more importantly I can’t cause that would go against confidentiality. So what does that leave in my life to talk about?
- I got a new Mac (but I’m behind on this whole technology thing)
- I moved in with Tammy (she bought a condo which is great news for her — all it means in my life is that I don’t live in my parents basement anymore)
- I’m bartending today (really not that exciting)
So pretty much nothing in my life is overly interesting according to me. But I will try to write more and maybe I’ll actually have an interesting blog that will make my brother proud (cross your fingers haha)

OK I LIED (but only a little)
As you all know by now Relay For Life is a large part of my life, and it happened last weekend! Here are the stats:
85 teams
just under 800 participants
over 200 volunteers
raised $330,000!!!!
that is a record for Red Deer!! It was awesome! Oh and the Bow Fashion Show was a success!

Seriously for a moment

Filed under: Uncategorized — Sharyl @ 9:46 pm

Hahaha yeah right.. when am I ever serious?

So the purpose of this post then? Well I just want to remind anyone and everyone who might still read this that I am still trying to raise money for my team in the Relay For Life! There is a link on the right hand side that will quickly and easily take you the the website to make your donation! It all goes to an amazing cause that effects each and everyone of us. And if right now you are thinking ” Cancer doesn’t effect my life” then I want you to take 2 minutes and think about the people that mean the most to you because cancer had effected them. So please make any donation that you can because every penny counts! If you don’t feel comfortable making an online donation then please contact me and we can do the old school cash thing!

Thank you in advance for supporting this event! (which by the way is the most successful cancer fundraier in Canada — don’t you want to be part of that?)

The update

Filed under: Life, Fish, The Corsica / The Versa, Road Trips, Family — Sharyl @ 6:43 pm

So… it has been a long time since i have taken the time to write anything here. So what’s new? Hows about the point form version?

- We went to Vegas, it was awesome… even the part when I hit Carl the Coyote with all four tires.
- In related news my car got it’s first repair — a brand new front bumper!

- When we got back I started my new job as an Employment Consultant for people with developmental disabilities. I was right - it is challenging but it can also be the best job because you are helping people to reach their goals and you get to watch them succeed. But most of the time I am frustrated and tired. You never know what your day will bring you when you go to work; you could have one client to see the whole day… and then your phone rings and all hell breaks loose! and then you end up staying at work until 6:00 or talking on the phone all day or driving all over the country side. Or it could just be a quiet day of paperwork - you never know. I’ve been there 6 months now and I work with the best group of girls! It helps you get through the day when you have a good team to laugh it all off with.
- Side note: Still working at the westerner.

- Brad and Karin finally had Claire. She is cuter than anyone else’s niece — her and Julia are tied but we all know how cute Julia. They are 2 friggin cute kids. I’m not biased. Julia is growing up too fast. I try to see them both as much as my jobs allow.

- Thanksgiving, Christmas and all those other fabulous holidays

- Somewhere in all this the Relay For Life 2008 committee formed and took over my life. Tammy and I are doing the Media/Promotions again and were also nominated to head up the Team Recruitment & Retention sub-committee. I’m not sure if this was a good idea. We are responsible for promoting and getting teams — I hope we do alright because otherwise Relay this year might be smaller than expected.
- always keep in mind my link on the right where you can make a donation. I’d appreciate it alot because it’s basically a part time job this year and I want lots of donations to show for it! Besides the fact that it’s a great event for a a great organization! There - thats my plug

- Jana Too is still alive and swimmin’! I know you were all wondering about her. I’ve had her for like 2 years now. Does anyone know how long those fish are supposed to live? She’s a trooper, she’s been through a lot!

- On January 28th (when winter finally came and it was -40 out) Tammy and I hoped on our plane to Varadero, Cuba. We stayed for 2 weeks this year and I seriously recommend it to anyone. It is a gorgeous country with so much history. We had a great time and just when it started to get cloudy there we got on a plane and came back to Canada where our 2 weeks of brutally cold winter was over. I think next year I want to miss winter again — it was awesome.

Since I got back I’ve just been hanging out, working, doing laundry and not much else. My life is a bit on the boring side. Yeah there’s the roadtrips and the vacations and the not really knowing what my day will look like every morning but take all that away and I’m kinda bored.

I’m going to post pictures from Cuba so check it out! And don’t forget to pledge me!!!

The Challenge

Filed under: Uncategorized — Sharyl @ 7:37 pm

So my brother set out a challenge to those of us with our own blogs that read his blog. Pick one of his topics and write about it, since I don’t have much worth writing I thought I would give it a whirl. My topic: If I had one year to live, and could go anywhere on Earth, I would go…

I would like to say that with one year left I would travel the world and see all those amazing and wonderful things that I’ve only seen in pictures and daydreamed about seeing but I’m not sure that I would. First off, we all know that I don’t really handle big stressful changes very well so I’m very sure that the first half of my one year would be spent freaking out. After that, I think that I would spend my year with the people that I love. My family and friends — the people that are important to me. I would like to leave the earth behind with those metaphorical footprints all over it instead of tracking all over the globe.

On another note. I finally did get a job!!! Yay!! I think it will be an amazing and rewarding job. However I am still in the training process so I will talk more about it another time.

Summer is almost over

Filed under: Uncategorized — Sharyl @ 9:50 am

How did I spend my summer? Besides on facebook? Well I actually have done a lot!

Relay for Life went very well and I am planning on being on the committee again.
The day after Relay Jacquie and Brad got married at a beautiful ceremony at Pine Lake.
I have worked my fair number of weddings this summer.
In July Jenna and Mike got married, I was MC for their reception.
I went to Alberta’s Own Music Festival in Benalto, had a great weekend and saw some amazing local bands.
Then it was Westerner Days, so i worked insane hours for a while.
Julia turned one!! Shannon and Derek had everyone down at their house for a BBQ and cake.
in between all that I worked some more weddings.
Last weekend I went as an ‘and guest’ with my friend Quitcy to his friends wedding.
and that brings us to this weekend — chuckwagon finals are in town.

So basically I have been the wedding queen this summer. I’ve been to 3, MC’d 1, bartended about 2o since May, and seen many more that that (and that is just this summer). So if anyone has any questions about weddings I think I can help!

What’s coming up? Jenn, Tammy, and I are going on a little roadtrip to Las Vegas. Yes we are driving the 2253km, we know it will take us a full day and we could easily fly, and blah blah blah…. Trust me I know but that is not the point of a roadtrip. We are leving the last week in august and will be gone over my birthday. It will be so so much fun and in 40 years when you are talking to me about all your regrets and things you wished you did I can talk about the amazing time I had with my 2 best friends when we drove to Vegas and how in hindsight you wish you had come! Oh and I’m going to Cuba for a couple weeks this January. I guess you can wait to see pictures of my summer until it is all over and i post them all or you can go creep on facebook and see what I’ve been up to!

One final bit of begging

Filed under: Uncategorized — Sharyl @ 3:08 pm

I promise I will stop asking for money very soon — but lets be honest here…. the website is called “Sharyl Needs MONEY”. And I really do only ask for one donation a year! I guess all I have to say is this:

Since January a small committee of volunteers have worked very hard to organize an event that raises money to help fight cancer. Relay For Life is an amazing and fun event, and more importantly 80% of the money goes directly to the Canadian Cancer Society. The CCS provides many services as well as support for Cancer patients and their families. How many of us can say that we know no one that has been touched by cancer? So, when all is said and done, we are contributing to an amazing organization!

So here we go!!! Click to the right and pledge me!!!! If you haven’t yet then give me a reason!!! I donated my time and money!!! Also, stop by Relay this Friday at Crossroads Church starting at 7:00pm and going until 7:00am on Saturday!! Come see what an amazing event this truly is

The last thing….

Filed under: The Corsica / The Versa — Sharyl @ 8:34 pm

… you will ever hear about the corsica, well excluding sentimental comments about my beautiful paint-proof first car. We just sold it. Dad and mom took a time out from playing Wii to help me make the transaction. Actually Ma & Pop have been very useful and nice in helping me with the car switch here — i really appreciate it. I feel all weird… back to just the one car now.
